Seven Days: Chomsky in Pakistan, VPRO 2001

In November 2001, following their visit to India, Noam Chomsky and his wife Carol travelled to Pakistan for the Eqbal Ahmad Memorial Lecture series. Chomsky delivered the 3rd Eqbal Ahmad Distinguished Lecture, “Searching for Universal Human Values: Prospects, Limits, Barriers” at Khorshed Mahal, Avari Hotel, Lahore, 24 November, and the 4th Eqbal Ahmad Distinguished Lecture, “Our Endangered Species,” at the National Library, Islamabad, 26 November.

In the post “9/11” world, there was a lot of interest in his views. I documented his Pakistan visit, broadcast on the Dutch television channel VPRO, as part of their ‘7 Days’ series, 12 Dec 2001.

The documentary features Noam Chomsky, Pervez Hoodbhoy, Najam Sethi, researcher Ayesha Khan, Qasim Jafri and others, in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
